I use spent compost to grow pristine radishes in errrr - dare I say it - cat litter trays. (Any deepish container will do).

I also posted this a while ago on how my mate Ron gets the best spring onions on the site.....

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

You can use it to grow container carrots in, or slap it on the garden/plot like I do
"I think the carrot infinitely more fascinating than the geranium. The carrot has mystery. Flowers are essentially tarts. Prostitutes for the bees. There is, you'll agree, a certain je ne sais quoi oh so very special about a firm young carrot" Withnail and I

Dig mine into the veg plot and add to the garden. Slowly improves the structure and adds a bit to the depth where I select.

With the lovely clay that I have, spent compost is a great additive to improve the drainage and eventually the ease of digging over.

DD, I remember seeing Geoff Hamilton doing something similar in his Ornamental Garden series, but he just used regular starter soil.

My mum grows whopper onions but she's been annually manuring her soil for the last 40 yrs, a bit of a headstart on the rest of us .

About the same time i got mine. When i stripped the runner beans and peas off at beginning of Oct the dalek was full. When i went out today it's down to only about a quarter, so i think i should have alittle bit to use by march. Might just get it forked in before i start planting :)

You'll get exterminated if you keep spelling "Dalek" with an "r" in the middle, by all the Dr. Who purists!
