I have another question for your knowledgeable lot out there.  We have been offered some vinyl flooring for the shed (we have converted a 6x4 shed for our anticipated chooks).  My first thought is that it will make life very easy for cleaning out, but are there drawbacks or things I should know? Like is vinyl chicken poison??

The main thing I would say is that if you use vinyl on top of a wooden floor, it could be a harbour for red mite?  unless you stuck it down allround to stop them crawling under it?   They are nasty little things!!!!!

But I don't think they would peck it unless there were loose bits around for them to pick up

There are no loose bits, although I suppose there might be in time because of natural wear and tear.  I guess I could stick it down, but then the thought of just dragging the whole thing out for cleaning is very attractive!

I've been thinking of getting some offcut lino, thought it could act as a sort of droppings board, albeit rather flexi but easy to drag out and hose down,

Sounds a good idea. Think I may need to make some minor mods in our coop to make cleaning easier. Nice to pick up/steal good ideas from people
