How many people know .....

The significance of the green leaf on a poppy.  When you wear it, the leaf is suppose to point to 11, as on a clock face.

I only know because many many years ago we went on a school trip to the poppy factory in Richmond, London, where the poppies are made by disabled ex-servicemen.  I remember the soldier telling us that, and it has stuck with me every since.  Mrs Bouquet

White poppies represent three things: remembrance for all victims of war, commitment to peace and a challenge to the glamorisation of conflict. The French wear a cornflower which grew in profusion there to represent remembrance and solidarity in France. It started as a means of helping injured veterans of the First World War, but before long had been adopted by the whole French nation as a symbol of gratitude for the sacrifices the soldiers had made to defend their country and their ideals.
