Overwintering Garlic
« on: February 16, 2015, 21:53 »
Hi all,

Last October I planted out on the the plot my overwintering Garlic, when I planted them out the leaves were a lovely green colour but now there is a bit of yellow. I know the winter will have had its impact so what can I do to perk them up?

Should I will wait until March or April before I feed them but when that time comes I have both Miracle Grow & Phostrogen which would be best?

Thanks

I would wait until the weather warms and they show signs of new growth, then I would feed them. I use Growmore, but I suppose Phostrogen would be ok. Don't know what's in Miracle Gro so I can't comment.

I'd also check that they have sufficient drainage.  I dug mine up shortly after planting and put them in pots, as we had a lot of rain and the ground was getting waterlogged...

Fatbelly, I usually give mine something high in nitrogen at the beginning of March (Chicken pellets) and then Sulphate of Potash mid April and again in June. This second one I spray on the leaves. Seems to help them resist leek rust too  :nowink:
