Sorry I didn't mean that to sound narky (I didn't get much sleep last night so I'm not as chirpy as usual).

I agree that wing clipping is no big deal when you know what you are doing, but to someone who is doing it for the first time it can be a bit scarey (worrying that you might cut into the little blood vessel etc)

Yes' you can cut down too far and make the feathers bleed (probably hurts too) but if you cut where the diagram show you'll be fine, the blood supply doesn't go down that far.

There's a fence at the bottom of the garden that separates me from next-door-but-around-the-corner - they've got builders in and everynow and again I can see a Hi Vis jacket jump up as they try to get a look at my chooks.  Why don't they just blooming knock on the door?

It's the same with most skills.  If you are confident to do it all things are easy,  but if you've never done something before - especially with the danger of hurting a chook it can be stressful.  I'm sure we've all held a chook that has started to flap and struggle.  

If blind folding the hen makes it an easier process while you are getting the nack of how to do it, that's fine - you'll soon find it's really easy to do and will build up confidence so that the sock trick doesn't even cross your mind.

I think the chooks will be ok, it's surprising how many people are scared of them!
