Out of Swedes already - can I sow more Swedes (or Turnips)

Due to several Swedes showing soggy rotten hearts when harvesting, I am right out Swedes already. Can I get with a late sowing if I sow now?

Or do I sow Turnips as I have a golden variety that is very similar to swede.

In Cornwall the locals don't seem to recognise a difference between swedes and turnips. Obviously they are though.

Should I maybe have sowed my Swedes later in the year so they were ready for harvest later? It seems they rotted because they were in the ground too long.

when did you sow them?

The RHS says
Quote
Sow from early May in the north to mid June in the south.

Early May. Maybe try several sowings next year.

Nearly all my swedes were mushy inside but my turnips were all sound and some still to harvest.

I put in a 3 rows of 'Purple Top Milan' turnip a couple of weeks ago - you should be able to get a couple of rows in this week, but it's sooner rather than later for us now :)

I've always grown swedes as a winter crop and wouldn't consider lifting them for months yet. Just sowed another lot of turnips which should be ready to eat in 8-10 weeks

When do you sow your swedes Solway Cropper? I think I could have sown them too early and they then rotted in the ground.
