Sainsburys do a 5kg bag of granulated at 85p per kg.  Locally, they are cheapest for sugar, vinegar and lemons so I get some funny comments sometimes when I am queuing at the till and people see the limited contents of my trolley - I've even been asked if I am on some special diet

I use granulated sugar for strawberry, blackberry but use jam sugar for gooseberry - just seems to work better I find.  If the fruit is sweet use granulated - that's my system  ;)

Strawberry jam doesn't set easily, so I use jam sugar for that, everything else seems to set ok with ordinary granulated ;)

I always put a little diced apple in my strawberry jam and then find it sets ok but you don't taste the apple as don't use much
