Title: Compost aerator
Post by: Candide on March 11, 2022, 14:35
Working my way back thro the archived pages and got to 282.  JayG mentioned his compost aerator.  My bins are not set up for turning one into another so did a gurgle and eventually settled on one from Garden Naturally.  Its got collapsible wings!
I'll check to see if there are any desirable tenants in there first

edit to clarify title for search purposes

Yes, I had a couple of that design before I bought the helical coil type you may be referring to.

Both the winged ones broke, probably because I was too ambitious trying to heave up great lumps from the bottom to the top of the dalek (the metal one lasted longer than the plastic one, needless to say.  ;))

The helical coil is still going strong, but needs some care to avoid personal injury if it suddenly comes clear with all your weight (and face) behind it!

eeh, that lad dont know his own strength.
Useful to know.  I'll try and be a bit more subdued but go for one like yours when it breaks.  Thanks

If you're using them in a dalek type compost bin, mind your knuckles - I scraped mine more than once ... eventually the aerator stopped 'opening' so became just a stick!
