If grown some purple sprouting broccoli during the summer. It's done relatively well and I have some huge leaves on the plant. Should I be cutting them back now to encourage the flower heads ??? Your advice would be gratefully received.

Don't cut back. It'll start to bud up in the spring.

purple sprouting broccoli seems to be more popular than the white sprouting to overwinter although i personally prefer the white varieties [white sprouting] for taste but just my preference i know you can grow summer broccoli but never had any luck with growing it this season will give it another try next season looked at 2 varieties Atlantis or inspiration DT Brown

I've not had much success with Purple sprouting but grow Autumn broccoli successfully every year, so I just freeze it when I get fed up with it fresh :D

Many Thanks for all your comments. Much appreciated.

I like purple sprouting better than ordinary, but it is in the ground for over a year, so takes up a lot of space for a long time. I usually start off a new crop whilst I am picking the old.

I'm interested to know what autumn variety of broccoli you grow MUM because it sounds like you have results from growing that variety :)
