Can anyone identify this plant?
« on: June 11, 2011, 18:39 »
Hi,

We have just moved into a new house with lots of plants in the garden. I think we have managed to identify most of them with a bit of help from my parents but the plant in the attached pic is in our front garden and we have no idea what it is!

My mum thought it might be fennel but there is no sign of a bulb or anything like that at the bottom,

any ideas?

Many thanks

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Really? wow that was quick! So time for stupid questions:- how come it looks nothing like asparagus in the shops, will I eventually be able to eat it or has it gone to see or something?

It's grown, that's why.

What you get in the shops are the shoots that are only a couple of days or so old.

You should have some next year, possibly late April time.

Hi,

Im new to the forum and joined to post a picture of a plant on my allotment that i just cant identify.  So im having a quick look round the forums to see if i can help on anyone else's queries.

I only just took the allotment over this year and things are going well.  It has previously been abandoned for 2-3 years so you can imagine the state when i took it over.  Weve weeded and cultivated the soil but ive left "interesting" things alone to see what comes up for free!

Anyway, i was walking around the other plots last night with one of the plot holders and he pointed out one of the plots with several plants exactly like that and he said they were asparagus!

He did also say that the chap who bought them paid a lot of money for them - dont know how true this is, but he said he paid around £130 for around 15 plants (about 2-3 foot tall)

so dont chop it up!

Cheers

Very large pinch of salt required here, methinks!

MMMMmmm   That's what i thought as well.

I wouldn't have had any idea that they were asparagus though, just like the original poster!

surprising what you can learn when you ask the experts.

I'm glad I joined the website now!

anyway Imm off to see if i can upload the photos of this strange looking beastie i've got growing

Cheers
