Slugs!
« on: May 16, 2009, 18:41 »
Bit of a common theme recently  ::)

I went down to the greenhouse earlier today to put my tomato seedlings into some bigger pots. Slugs had munched a couple  >:( Not the end of the world as I had planted quite a few spares but I hadn't appreciated just how far slugs could climb. The seedlings were in a plastic seed tray on a shelf approx 5 foot off the ground. I'd already had to put slug pellets at ground level anyway for some other plants...

Is this normal slug behaviour or do I just have gravity defying mutant Spiderslugs in my greenhouse?

S'pose it could be snails - are they more gravity defying than slugs? You'd have thought that the weight of that little house on their backs would have made them topple backwards as they were scaling the dizzy heights of the greenhouse. They didn't stop off at the lower shelves to sample the chillies and french beans  :D

Have you ever tried prising a snail off a pot? They have some serious suction. :D

I've seen them (snails) up by the guttering here - 16ft ish. Although that was with the aid of Ivy.

We have slime trails all over the house walls, without ivy.

Basically, they are sneaky!..Just like mosquitos..

I mean, do you notice when they've been about...? NO! They potter along ( or fly) have a good nibble ( or suck) and off they go..the only thing you notice is the nibble...

Itchy on the body...grrrrr
