Do you mean hens will preen a lot while moulting ?  Mine do, but they only pull out feathers which are naturally moulting anyway.  They don't actively pull feathers to prompt moulting

going back to the original post - she was laying then stopped and now feathers are all around - this could be because she is going broody. If you keep seeing her in the nest box either on eggs or just on nothing then keep chucking her out. Also a broody hen can be quite brutal to people or other hens if they think they are after their eggs.
I would suggest that you stock up on a bottle of wound powder should blood be drawn again - it is an antiseptic and will help stem the flow of blood.
Young hens do moult but usually in stages so often people dont notice

Thanks Joyfull, feather business seems to have slowed down.  I rarely catch her in the nest box, the feathers have all been under the perches.  I'll keep my eye on her.  B
