Hi
I Have a Mcculloch Hedge trimmer, Virgina MH542P, which I can not loger get to start.
I was using at the weekend to cut my hedge, got one side done, but on turning it off, it will now not start.
I was have a bit of trouble with it before, but now it is dead.
Been through all the basics, fuel, spark, filter.
I think it might need a new diaphragm, it is not visabley split.
The car just says "ZAMA" on it with a 32, but dont think that is a model type.
Can anyone help?
PS it is a B&Q ex one.

I have now found on it the following
C1U
There is also a 44 and then 41 on the carb butterfly.
and on the other side, M32B 34A

Found it now!
http://www.zamacarb.com/pdfs/QuickKit_CR2010.pdf
It lists the kit as either the GND18 for just the diaphragm or the RB28 for full rebuild.
I just need the gaskets and diaphragm for £9 delivered off fleebay.

Well done! That's useful to all of us. :)

Well the carb kit came today, and still it will not fire!
I have changed the fuel, checked the piston rings, still has good compression.
Checked the adjustment screws to std settings.
On taking spark plug out just is very wet with fuel?

Have you checked the spark under compression, some models of yellow perils had the ignition coil above the blade gearbox and were a real pain . I tried to attach a file which is very useful technical manual for understandind Zama carbs but too large at 2.5 mb to upload.
Pm your email if you want it sending?

I have only checked the spark with the plug out and touching the cylinder head...so I guess not under load. How do I do it under load?
Yes the ignition coil is about the gearbox.

See if you can get a timing light like the in in the link,it will test under compresion and shows up a weak system if it does not flash...just connect in series between the plug and plug lead.

Thanks, and that would indicate..... ignition coil? or plug?

Either, but the plug is easy to eliminate.
There is a little more on the uses of a timing light in an earlier thread, post #8 .I have in an older one like yours waiting for for repair that will fire up but looses the spark after a few seconds so will most likely need a new coil.
