My tomato plants are now 3 weeks old and seem to be going ok.  I'm just not sure how much and how often to water them, can anyone please give me some advice on this as I don't want to drown them.

Just keep them moist, don't let them dry out.

if your worried about overwatering yout toms, put them in a saucer of water, for about 10 minutes and then take it out again.

As said above, dont ever let them dry out and put them into a tray of water for a while until you can see the damp surface. When planting them out ino the final pot i always give each one a pint of water and leave them for a week. Meant to encourage roots to go in search of water and establish quicker

10 minutes is unlikely to be enough - make it 30-40 minutes then drain well.
