i went down to the lottie today just to check everything is ok, and realised some thieving scumbag has stolen my water butt! it was one of those slim line buts on a stand, they left the stand behind,  the had to empty the butt before they took it, i know it was full of water because i filled it right to the top so the wind couldnt blow it over. i checked all around there was no sign of it.  just so annoying.

Why would someone steal a water butt?  The're not that expensive surely?  Last time I looked they weren't worth stealing!

 i cant understand why they left the stand, they need that if they are planing on using the tap at the bottom it, ill leave it there for them to take when they get time lol. this is the second thing ive had stolen in the last couple of months, the first was my hubbys pick axe, i find it hard to believe its anyone on my site,  but we do have a 7ft locked gate and fencing, maybe im just too trusting .

no, thats what i first thought, but it was nowhere to be seen, and it was full to the brim with water, so i think it was way to heavy to blow down.
never mind, i wanted to get and ibc tank for next year so now i will have too.

I had someone steal a 1000 litre IBC from my plot last year, the day after I put it there.

Why would someone steal a water butt?  The're not that expensive surely?  Last time I looked they weren't worth stealing! 

I recently bought 2 compact water butts with stands for my greenhouse at what I thought was quite a good price but they were still about £19 each!

Having tried in vain to find locking water taps (or at least ones with removable handles) at a sensible price the best I can suggest is painting the outside of your, ahem, butts with your plot or house number and possibly also some more lurid graffiti to make them more identifiable and therefore hopefully less attractive to thieves.
