Anyone tried this? I've just eaten the tastiest nectarine and was about to spit the stone into the bin but thought, I could grow this!!

Q. Can you grow a nectarine tree from a seed from a nectarine?

A. Yes, but it may not have fruit. If it has fruit it may not be edible. If it is edible it may not taste good. Fruit grown from a seed does not come true to the fruit the seed came from. That's why all fruit trees that have a variety name are grafted, not grown from seed.

I have a nectarine tree in my yard that grew from a pit that my mother planted. In its 4th or 5th year it flowered and produced a small amount of fruit which was sweet and juicy. The following year it produced many flowers but little fruit. This year is its 3rd producing and it has exploded with fruit. The branches are all having to be propped up because they are so laden. I expect to begin picking them next week. We are located in southern Ontario, Canada. So yes, it is possible to grow a fruit producing tree from seed.

It is possible. It is not probable. If it works, you save a few bucks. If it doesn't, you lost a few years (waiting for the tree to grow up and fruit so you can find out if it worked or not.)
