Garlic planted in the Spring
« on: October 12, 2006, 13:24 »
I've just harvested my Garlic planted in the Spring.  Its just got small nodule things on the sides of the bulbs, so not that impressive really   .

I read somewhere that you get better results planting in the Autumn as Garlic needs cold weather to split the cloves.  I plan to plant some now for next year.

Does anyone know if I will be able to eat the bulbs just harvested and the small cloves on the side?  Will they keep?

Not sure about the side bits - there's an article on Garlic on the NVS site - Growing Garlic

You might have left your garlic in the ground too long. The bulb splits then. So it's better to eat that one clove now than let it sit around as the bulbs do not store well once the cloves have separated.
wistfully hoping to one day be mostly organic gardener in North London.
