hens on slabs?
« on: May 24, 2010, 21:20 »
My run is currently on bare earth. I am worried about foxes digging in. I've cadged some really thick concrete slabs and aim to put the run on slabs. Has anyone had any bad experiences with hens on concrete?

My hens at the lottie are on slabs. Have had no problems at all, its easy to clean and nothing can dig in, or out!
However, do make sure that they have something to scratch around in. Cover your slabs in bark or pebbles for example. Or do as I have in one of the runs and just pave around the outside, leaving the centre as bare earth.

I have my seramas on slabs but with a thickish (in places) covering of composty, leafmoldy soily stuff :)

Plenty to scratch around in but safe too :)
I love Pekins, Polands and Seramas :) and eggs!!!
