I know this has probably come up before, but.... can I use lawn clippings to earth up my maincrop spuds? 
I'm really struggling to dig with a bad back, and dumping mowings would be so much easier!

If it's essential to cover with soil, I'll have to bribe the OH with more wine this weekend

you dont have to earth up potatoes - we only earth-up to give us a better/bigger crop, and yes you can use grass clippings to earth up potatoes, it has been widely discussed on here - so you should be able to find lots of threads on the matter using the search bar, hope that helped

You earth up potatoes to prevent them going green from exposure to light at this stage of the season.  A mulch will do much the same job.

The problem is the birds and beasties keep tossing the straw / grass clippings about while looking for bugs.      Cheers,    Tony.
