did my onion seed as nomal 4th dec,,all came up well,too well got a bit leggy,,so i put them in the cold green house,,do u think they will be ok   hmmmmmm

i have onions and spring onions seeds in my cold greenhouse they are doing ok.  ;)

I'll start mine, all being well, on the traditional date of Boxing Day. Once up, they'll see nothing warmer than a frost free greenhouse.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Thanks DD - just confirms my plans for boxing day as well..
Now a member of the 10 Ton club.... 2013  harvested 588 Kg from 165 sq mt..

Going to try onions from seed again this year (last year tried and failed).. apologies if a daft question but is it just a case of sowing into tray/modules in coldframe/unheated greenhouse and leaving them to it? Or do they need heat to germinate and then transfer?

I'm going to sow mine in the next few minutes.

They will go on the kitchen window sill and when germinated, be transferred into a heated, but only just to keep it frost free, greenhouse.

The young seedlings will not stand a really cold snap, so I don't advise putting them anywhere totally unheated.
