Supermarket milk tops
« on: August 30, 2022, 19:58 »
Those of us who get their milk from the supermarket may have noticed the change to a white cap from the blue , green or red  , full fat , semi skimmed or skimmed.

Apparently it's cheaper to make the tops without colouring than with. Some   customers have been  caught out  , staff have had quite a bit of grief.

How the partially sighted are managing to be sure which milk they are buying time may tell.
we also rescue rabbits and guinea pigs, grow own veg

Not seen any yet but also apparently makes recycling easier. Since the labels are colour coded as well, wouldn't partially sighted just go by that, plus it’s bigger than just the coloured lids?

I can understand if it makes recycling easier. Mind you, the foils on the bottled milk we get follow the usual convention of green, blue and gold so hopefully the colour convention is maintained through the labeling.

My Cravendale milk all my recent weekly home deliveries  (had one a few days ago) has the blue tops.
Our local council allow you to recycle the plastic milk bottles with their tops, so no issue here.

Apparently the recycling of plastic milk bottles is labour intensive when the top is attached , we can all do our bit by recycling the tops separately until the manufacturing process changes to tops of the same colour.

I'm sure given time , we will adjust in the same way we now  use our own shopping bags .

The only problem I have with it is that the white top makes it look like the top is already off the bottle - it causes some confusion when I'm trying to make the first cup of tea of the day, and am wondering why the milk isn't coming out of the bottle.  I don't really wake up properly until I've had my first cup of tea, so it feels unfair that I have to deal with this kind of challenge before I'm properly caffeinated  :D :D :D

Very true!
I'm reassured that this is not confined to the tenhens household.
