Greetings from beautiful subtropical Georgia, and Athens, in the Georgia Piedmont.
It is a brisk 7 degrees here at 7:15 this morning. That is 7 Fahrenheit (old money), which is how we roll here, but -14 C to the rest of the world. Can't tell you it's sunny (because it's still pitch dark), but I can report that it is clear. The temperature is probably a record low for the date (film at eleven).
We are not the coldest spot in Georgia right now. That honor (?) goes to a small weather station on the east side of Sassafras Mountain in Pickens County, Georgia. It is -4 F there right now (that's -20 C).
I looked it up, the record cold for December 24 is 3 F, so today's cold is not a local record.
