Title: New bugs but not Covid
Post by: snowdrops on September 30, 2022, 11:12
Well folks, I’ve finally had to admit defeat & take to my bed
At the very beginning of September I had a sore throat & headache-not Covid, had that in June whilst on holiday!! It’s gone on & on from there, eventually turning into a dreadful cough that 2 weeks ago I thought I’d better see the Dr, chest infection & antibiotics prescribed. Sadly they didn’t do the trick so this Tuesday went back & different antibiotics. Yesterday I just felt so dreadful I had to go to bed & I’ve decided I’m housebound if not bed bound for the weekend at least.
Tbh I haven’t rested as I should but some days I felt not too bad. Our son is also on 2nd lot of antibiotics. People I’ve spoken to round here have said they know people who seem to have been exactly the same.
So how is round you, anybody you know with it or have you had it.
My word of wisdom is if you get it stop and rest as I’m now going into  October with it, my garden is a mess and the allotment, there’s stuff to harvest (over 30 tomato plants that are heavy with crops) and I just can’t do it. I feel like my years work has been in vain

That's not a good at all, especially if the antibiotics didn't help the first time. Off to bed and stay there properly, regardless. Have your other half get started on the chicken soup  ;) If it's still a problem after a week, don't except the usual brush off from the doc, get them to run some detailed tests. We're all going to be more sensitive to the standard bugs as we've been caged up in isolation without the normal exposure to them.

The year hasn't been wasted you just can't enjoy harvesting the produce yourself, nothing stopping you eating it, you can try again next year once you've back to normal.  Yes, I am fully aware that people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones and me telling you to look after yourself is like Hannibal Lecter advocating being a vegan.

Thanks Lards, yes still in bed & given my apologies for gardenclub committee meeting Monday & speaker evening Tuesday, so that must show my commitment to staying put.
 Have rung Drs & got a call back (didn’t want to be seen) he’s just prescribed an inhaler & said if I get worse 111 or no better Monday go & see him & might be look at pneumonia.

I've had flu like symptoms for the past 10 days or so.. laid me up on Wednesday, proper lethargic with aches & pains.. covid tests are coming back negative and I've been taking paracetamol & ibuprofen for the past 3 or 4 days as well as plenty of hot drinks and I'm feeling much better today.. fingers crossed I'll be OK for Tuesday as I'm off to Greece for a week!

My husband had had a cold/cough and flu type bug for nearly three weeks.  He's obviously felt bad as a couple  of days he's stayed in bed.  He  actually got a  face to face appointment with the GP.  Apparently having been shut indoors for the last couple of years we have lost our natural immunity to other people's bugs.

He's on the mend but it's not been fun for either of us.

You are 4 times more likely to have a bad cold than Covid right now.

All sounds similar to how I started. Maybe if I’d have rested earlier I’d not be like this now.
Perhaps also I need to accept I’m not 20 anymore.

Resting probs wouldn't have helped much Snows, you did the right thing by keeping going, so now you know you're really poorly, you can lay back and think of England!

Thanks Yorkie. I really hope no one else gets it. It really is nasty. For me Covid wasn’t this bad.

How're you feeling now, Snows?

We're off for flu AND the covid jabs today, so will be whimpering a bit too, later on!

Hi Mr G, think it’s on the wane, fingers crossed at least. Managed to have out young grandson yesterday for a couple of hours & take him to Debbie’s so he could wear himself out on the soft play with grandad, the idea that I would sit & watch. Best laid plans & so on, guess who ended in the ball put with him! But I had missed him & he was so good, he fell asleep on the way home so we took him home to put to bed & mummy had finished hairdressing so I didn’t need to stay. Which was just as well as I was jiggered by then & needed a lay down.
We’ve been to our favourite farm shop this morning & had a sit & coffee & cake & yep I’m about jiggered again! So it’s going to be a long slow journey back to my fighting weight I think!
Fingers crossed you all stay clear of it. There’s so much harvesting & preserving that needs doing let alone clearing up & getting ready for winter that I was aiming to get done so that next year started ready & organised. But hey ho that’s the way the cookie crumbles.

Hi Snow, sorry you have been so poorly.  Don't worry about the lottie or garden etc.   It will all still be there.
Perhaps your Garden Club buddies could help you a bit.    Take care.   Mrs Bouquet

Hi Snowy,

I've just sat down at the computer and was going to ask how you were now, but then saw that Growster had beaten me to it.  I'm so pleased that you seem to be on the mend, but you still need to take it easy for a while or you'll be back where you started.  I know it's difficult when you are normally so active, but these things take time to get over, so rest when you can and you'll soon be back to yourself again.

Thanks all, yes still taking it easy. I’m finding it’s surprising how tired I get after a tiny amount of energy spent. Been to the farm shop today & rested tge rest of the day until we went to see our 2 older grandchildren & the little one again too. A lot of coughing again today sadly but not as chesty.
