well another experiment today, I had one of the 'watering ' hoses from wilkinsons the other year, and my bottom shelf of strawberries gets less water than the top shelf, so I figured a water reservoir above that height should feed water all the way along the length.
so here it is, water container propped up on a ladder, and yes at full bore it just drips from every hole.

You  proved the concept - now you are doing the installation.  Perfectly reasonable to start with it close to the strawbs.  i'm sure you always planned to move it once you got it to work!

ok an hours easy work and the system is up and running.

the bottom hose is cable tied to the shelf above, but every pot has at least one drip to feed it, the top shelf hose isnt supported and has less of a head of water, so needs to be as low as possible.
