Systemic Insecticide

Hi there

Not been on here for yonks, and then mostly in with the chooks.

Have a query, not strictly gardening, but is horticulture, so hope I'm in the right place.

Have been searching high and low for a systemic insecticide that I can water into house plant containers.  Don't really want to use it as a folia spray cos very messy.

Used to be able to get little things that you could push down into the pot, but can't seem to find them either.

Where have they all gone?  Banned by the EU??  Or I am just looking in the wrong place?

I want to zap whitefly and mealy bugs.  Don't really like using chemicals, and  I usually just pick em off, but little whatsits have infested the conservatory when I wasn't paying attention over winter.

Anyway,  fab here.  Lawn is now dry enough to walk on without sinking up to chin, and OH is actually out there with lawnmower.  Hurrah!

The push in sticks and tablets are off the market now I'm afraid.  The best systemic is Provado and that is available as an aerosol, which would be less messy  :)

I agree that Provado is the best to use, it does the job with both bugs.

You could put your house plants in the bath to spray them, as it helps contain the overspray.

Thanks for that.  Will try it.  Aerosol better than mixing and spraying, but not easy cos my plants are quite big and not easy to move.
Should have looked after them better in first place.

Failing the bath trick, try holding a sheet of cardboard from an opened out largish box behind the plant with one hand, and spray with the other

Provado is good and as it is systemic try it by watering it on the compost at the recommended rate.
