Rabbit Frustration
« on: June 30, 2011, 09:37 »
My plots are both fenced off. It looks like a  young rabbit has become trapped on Number 3. Somebody left the gate open. It's been spotted a number of times, getting bigger. Can I find it? No! The fence has been quadruple checked for entry/exit holes and is intact. Hiding places such as under the shed and the compost bins have been fenced off and all non-essential plant growth has been chopped down. I suppose it's possibly a jumping rabbit and pops in and out. Apart from one pile of droppings there is no other evidence of it's existence apart from the disappearing crops (Dwarf beans, climbing beans, salads).
I am open to any suggestions, however wacky, on this one!  :( How can they hide so well? Even the dog can't find it - though he shows interest in the compost heap.

It sounds as though it might be a digging and burrowing rabbit. :)

I know, it seems infeasible but it also seems highly unlikely it is climbing in and out repeatedly and undetected. :D Have you anything with large leaves, for instance rhubarb, which could be concealing an escape route?

Hi, I do but they are pretty shrivelled back due to the drought. Fingers crossed but there has been no sign of further rabbit damage since my "Spring clean". Thanks for your interest - I will also look at the rhubarb tomorrow!
