Title: Strange deposit from hen
Post by: Tom Parrot on July 23, 2017, 18:01
Hello readers,
I have a two year old plus hen who started to lay eggs 6th May 2015 stopped laying 16th April 2017. She laid a total of 545 eggs.
Now she is a bit slow (understandable) but, she laid (discharged) a weird deposit in the coop nest, and am not sure what it is (picture attached) or if I should be concerned.
She is otherwise fine, eating, pecking the newer hens etc, jusy a little slow.
Thank you all.

It looks like a 'lash' and usually means they won't lay any more eggs.

Hi, it could be a lash.  Have a Google for chicken lash and see what you think

Hello readers,
I searched Yahoo for chicken lash and well!!!!!!!!!
I think that is it.
Went through many sites before I found one that was informative, with pictures and explained it for me to understand.
This site gave information on early symptoms so as to try to avoid it.
http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2014/12/salpingitis-lash-eggs-in-backyard.html
Printed it out for reference.
The bottom line is that my hen may have only months to live. Nothing can be done, too late.
Hope this helps other chicken lovers as I had never heard or read of it.
