Title: strawberries, ripe but quite bitter
Post by: composthappens on June 23, 2014, 14:32
Havesting my strawberries yesterday, they are really red and ripe but they do not taste sweet at all, quite sharp in flavour.  Is there any reason why? should i have fed them?

I went to a PYO on Sunday and the strawberries didn't taste as nice as mine from the allotment when I first picked them (quite bitter). However, after they'd been left for a while they seemed to sweeten up.

I would have expected the reverse with sugars turning to carbohydrates. Any thoughts or similar experience?

Last year mine were tasteless until I fed them, not bitter though, so no help  :nowink:
