Surplus French Beans
« on: October 04, 2015, 11:56 »
My Neighbours and Friends are now avoiding me and still I have an abundance of French beans.  I have made a small bit if room in the freezer and was wondering how I go about freezing French Beans.  Do I need to blanch them?  Do I freeze them on trays (which will be difficult due to lack of space in the freezer).  Can I keep them in bags in the freezer or do they have to be in boxes?  Is there any other way of keeping surplus French Beans?

with ours I just chop, vacuum bag and freeze in about 300g packs, then when we need some we just get them out and steam them, or just throw in a stew. this always seems to work for us.
we do the impossible daily, miracles take a little longer.

I just top and tail mine, cut if needed, chuck in freezer bags, expel as much air as I can and freeze.  I don't weight them, as I put them in the bags dry.  When I want to use some I just jiggle the bag and have never had any stuck together.

I don't blanch either.  I've still got a few left from last year, so they seem fine doing that.  I would like a vacuum packer though!  ;)
