Alien object in night poo!
« on: May 04, 2009, 17:47 »
Hi, I'm yet another newbie, both to the site & keeping chickens, having taken on 6 lovely ex-batts 7 weeks ago.

I had a poo query early on which the poo chart helped me with (thanks Aunt Sally) but this one has got me stumped. When I cleaned out the house this morning I found a strange object which didn't look right at all - it was a creamy colour, longish (approx 3"), thick & rubbery looking but when I pulled one of the lumpier bits it broke open & had a granular-like texture. I've taken a photo and will try to include it later if requested (not very savvy on these things, don't know how to shrink them & its 344KB...)

One of the girls has recently finished a course of marbocyl for fever & infection and over the past few days they've only laid 2 eggs per day. I feed them on Ex-Batts pellets from the Smallholder range and mixed corn plus whatever they scavenge from around the garden.

Can anyone help please?

Sounds like a lash. it's when they shed the lining to their reproductive tract. Can be because of illness or infection or just a one off thing. A couple of people have had them with no other problems with their girls.
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

I have had about 5 from my ex-bats. Otherwise they are all fine.

Thanks for that, Kate & Hawkins, it's put my mind at ease superfast!

What a strange lot we are, studying poo charts & comparing samples...didn't know what I was missing until I got the girls.
