22 days, that surley must be a record, I'm sure I must have waited at least a month!!!

Mine went in 28 days ago, I've been away for 2 days and came back late this afternoon to find at least 6 on their way. I think it's because I haven't been around to stare intently at them wondering where they've got to. Only another 26 planting stations to come through....  :D

I had no success with them last year sio tried again this year .... most of them have come up and now have their first real leaves. Sowed them in the big plastic dustbin that I did the carrots in last year. Seem that's the way to go, for me!

I sowed 2 rows of parsnips at the beginning of April, only one germinated and is growing merrily away!

I purchase parsnip seeds fresh every year, so I will have to buy supermarket rubbish instead of having my own produce!
The answer lies in what you put into the ground!

i used ritchies paper pots and sowed one seed per pot and put them in the greenhouse.  they nearly all germinated (about 3 weeks), and are now about 4" high after being transplanted into my plot and are looking really healthy.  i dont think you are too late to try this method for yourself this year ;)

Mine are still in the packet, haven't got any room left for them and life is just too short  :nowink:

I'll merge them.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

The general advice  that you get on here is, give it a go...what does it say on the seed packet...?

I only sowed mine last weekend...go for it - what have got to lose apart from a few seeds... ;) :)

most places tell you to sow them early, but the riverford farm cookbook (?) suggests that they wait til quite late because they find the the ground temperature is important in germination. I sowed mine at the same time as my carrots, and the parsnips were definitely faster and more successful so far.

I have 3 parsnips !! but then again they could be weeds (I have a lot of those) but am not sure what to hoe or not to hoe  will leave it a bit longer and see if the weeds grow in rows! lol

Mine went in mid March and had really good germination . They are Tender 7 true, bought because the children liked their name. Sowed radishes in bewteen rows which have ben eaten up, so have nice neat rows of plants about five six leaves  :)

Just thought I'd say as this might be helpful for folk for next spring -- ground temp was 8 degrees  :nowink:

But  I have sowed Hamburg Parsley instead.

Anybody know what they taste like? :tongue2:
