Title: Brown and mild, light and bitter...

Years ago, when Mrs Growster's parents ran a pub, we regularly took orders for mixed beers, as the idea was that most landlords let the customer have just a little more than a half pint of the draught ale, to go with the bottle! (Yes I know a bottle was just under a half pint).

There were some silly ones like 'lager and blackcurrant' as well, and I never really understood the benefits of a 'lager top', either!

So do beer drinkers still go for mixes, or are we at last just enjoying a beer, which is served exactly as the brewer intended?

One at a time for me , especially the higher strength - Hobgoblin type ales although can't see the point in buying a decent ale and messing with it.   Having said that ,have tried 'normal' ales, ie:   John Smith's , Tetley etc with a splash of whisky in years gone by.

I do recall chatting to a retired publican back years ago and he mentioned some of the 'mixes' that were requested, was Black and Tan one?

Black and Tan was Guinness and lager, Tenhens!

Now if you think that is odd, then consider an amiable Growster with a huge glass of Guinness and champagne, standing in the car park at Twickenham, on a cold day in December...

That is the only mix I will condone!
