Trees on Allotment
« on: November 03, 2008, 14:22 »
Are young trees on my patch a good or bad thing ?
Think they're sycamores (sp).

Plan to raise all my beds and wonder if the trees will do any harm.

Also plan to plant a herb patch near them.

Thanks

Tony

I'd dig them out trees will just shade your plants and rob water and nutrients from the soil.

Would I need permission from the Council ?

Look at your tenancy agreement re permission from the council - but where I am, only fruit trees are allowed on plots so you're almost under an obligation to get rid of anything else!

We have MAJOR problems near me with soooo many self-seeded sycamores and ash trees.  I would certainly get rid of them if I could.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Only if you're in a conservation are I believe, but check first.

I agree with Ice.  Even if these are young trees you may need to see if there's a tree protection order on them before cutting them down or else you could be in hot water.

(BTW, if you ever need to spite a neighbour - get a TPO put on their garden trees and then they legally aren't able to cut them down without a really good reason and they have to jump through hoops to get that!)
