My Allotment Tulips
« on: April 12, 2015, 20:00 »
As I don't have a garden I decided to grow tulips (and other flowering bulbs) on the allotment to add a splash of colour to my house and on the lottie. I was rather enthusiastic on buying said tulip bulbs last year and as an experiment and so I don't take up too much space on the plot planted them as two layers one deeper than the other hoping that it would work. As you can see by the photos, double trench planting seems to have worked this year, whether I have exhausted the bulbs for subsequent years I will have to see but at 9 pink trugs full of tulips harvested so far and not even half of the tulips yet to flower my friends and family are having regular flower deliveries and my house is full of beautiful flowers  :D

Absolutely glorious. What a beautiful idea.

They look as if they should  be in a Dutch painting.

Absolutely beautiful! I have done something similar this year - but by accident rather than by design. I went a bit mad when I ordered tulip bulbs last year  ::) and ran out of pots at home to put them in  So I planted the leftovers - about 80 bulbs - on the allotment in the bed which will have pumpkins/squash/courgettes. My thinking was that the veg plants won't go out until late May, by which time the tulips should be finished. I cut my first few tulips for the house today and, if the unplanned experiment turns out to be even half as fabulous as your planned one, I shall be delighted  :).

I'd say you've got a good cut flower farm there Chaz1985! :D
Beautiful :)
I have a couple of flower pots on my plot that hold tulip bulbs. It is nice to see a splash of colour  :)

Gorgeous tulips! They are my favourite spring plants, so I start them in fall for winter flowers.

OMG!! They are absolutely beautiful and I echo the fact that they look like a Dutch painting.  :)
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

How lovely it must be to have soil that deep! I'm lucky to be able to get them in half a trowel deep.

Thanks, they have provided me, my plot neighbours, friends and family with weeks of enjoyment. The varieties were gorgeous and some tulips were as big as my hand. Will def be planting some more fringed tulips next year as they were gorgeous. The hot pink parrot tulips were also amazing!

They look absolutely gorgeous and have made me decide to definitely plant some myself next season.  :)
