Being the keeper of 2 ladies but by this time next month it will be 6. Ex batts waiting there retirement date. I realised last night when i got home that they need a rain shelter/smoke shelter. I have created a temp shelter. What does everyone else do? They will not go in the coup and the door is open!!! It is a dog by the way not a chicken honest.

we had a temporary shelter, litterally a kitchen cupboard door (large) on 4 legs.. but have since built a new house and raised it off the ground. :) it has 3 sides covered in, so they get out of the wind/rain etc, and a perch in their so if they want to perch they can - they can often be found perched on a log or whatever in the coop. :)
Not sure why they are getting out of smoke..

.....daft question Porffor, smoking and passive smoking is still bad for you

You'll be very lucky if they use it. Chickens seem quite happy to make their own arrangements when it rains.

It is OK. I am a former smoker. So know about these things.

Got a similar arrangement in our run which they sit under during the day to do their knitting and gossip.
as Bodger says, when it rains they seem to prefer being out in it than staying in the dry bit.
If only they could be trained to read the instruction manual. :?
