sunrise is at 4.52 BST tomorrow 8)
With the weather the way it is, don't think sunrise will be visible at Stonehenge, even if the celebration had been allowed.

The calendar says it's the summer solstice, might as well be the winter solstice given the horribly dull wet weather we've had all day.

Yesterday I had to keep smacking my hand to stop it twiddling the thermostat in an upward direction!
Managed to resist it, although if it had been wet as well as cool here, I would have certainly succumbed. :wacko:

Turning the thermostat up doesn't make your home heat up any faster. That is a function of the power of the boiler. There is no good reason to turn it up if it gets chilly, you must have set it to that temperature for a reason, that reason being that is a comfortable temperature, so why raise it and consume more fuel? Even better, put another layer on, after all I suspect you wear more clothes in winter when even a mild winter day is colder than a cool summer day.

al78, many people just use their thermostat as an on off switch - so it's their choice whether the heating switches on or off in the 'summer', not the thermostat. I just turn mine up to 18C when I want to turn it on, simple really....

It was actually a 'metaphorical' turning up of the thermostat (which I didn't do anyway of course! :lol:)
I switch it to the frost setting in summer which effectively over-rides the temperature setting (unless the temperature in the house drops below 5C or thereabouts! :ohmy:)

My thermostat has a dial in the middle which I have lined up with the 16c. If it dropped below that it would come on. I have resisted, but if I wanted it on, I would simple turn the dial anti-clockwise. I can hear it click, I have just done it and it clicked on at 17.5 c Didn't leave it on although I am cold. That must be one of the few things I can hear, with my H/aid turn on full and my ear pressed to it :lol: Mrs Bouquet

I don't get that. I just set mine to 15C and let it come on when the temperature drops below that, since apart from using the radiators to dry laundry in the autumn/winter/early spring, that is the only time I want the heating on. If you are using it as an on/off switch what is the point in having a thermostat in the first place?

So that I can set the temperature that I want to sit in, from day to day, rather than have a permanently set thermostat. Each to their own ...

I've got Hive, so have just clicked it to off on my phone, but it depends how easy it is to fiddle with your heating. Sometimes using the thermostat as an on/off is the easiest way.
I am of the view that each to their own, so I don't need to get it. It is whatever people feel is simplest and more convenient for them. 15 degrees is low, especially for older people or those who are not so mobile for any reason. The recommend minimum is 18 for them to avoid slow chilling of their bodies which exacerbates aches and pains. Some days and nights recently would have not been comfortable without some additional heat.
