Muslins & Spices
« on: August 26, 2010, 22:13 »
Hi

I have your fantastic Easy Jams & chutneys book Val and have not attempted anything apart from pickled onions before !!
I was looking at doing beetrot chutney and wondered do I need a muslin to put the spices in or would a spice ball work the same ??
Any ideas where to buy things like the blades of mace ?

I've never used a spice ball so I'm uncertain. At a pinch, when out of muslin, I've used pop socks! They've worked fine. Blades of mace etc. I've always managed to find in the mainstream supermarkets - especially Sainsburys.

Blade Mace is the one spice I have to resort to the interweb to obtain.

Cheers,  Tony. ;)

Can pickling spices be used more than once?
