Can anyone ID this?
« on: November 16, 2022, 22:49 »
Clearing an old hen run today to create a new garden I found this. Looks a bit like a conker but its growing on the ground. I've not dug it up in case its a keeper. Any ideas?

It's Datura Stramonium aka Jimson Weed. All parts of the plant are highly hallucinogenic, it'll pull out easy enough but you might want to wear gloves. Don't throw it on a bonfire either as the smoke could get you..

Wow thanks, just been reading about it. I might try and keep that, I grow lots of unusual plants and it would be good to see it flower.

Please don't let it set seed though!

Yes, Thorn Apple, Jimsonweed.  Poisonous member of the Nightshade family.

Just been reading up on it and its, reluctantly, going to have to go. Amazing what you find. I went to Bryngwyn Hall and they have a poison garden, sounds weird but it was well worth seeing. Thanks for the comments.
