Title: reviving lemon tree
Post by: andyf75 on May 13, 2015, 14:18
Hi all,

I have a small lemon tree in a pot, which I thought I had killed, but this spring it started to grow leaves from the trunk. The branches all still look dead.
I want to try and persist with trying to revive it if possible.
What should I do with it? I'm thinking re-pot with some nice citrus compost and cut the dead branches off?
Any other thoughts?

Many thanks!

I have recently inherited a dreadful looking lemon tree from my late mother in law.  I have left it in the pot it came with but feed it with 'proper' citrus food.  In the last month or so it has produced fresh dark green leaves and flower buds.  I intend to repot it shortly into a mix of John Innes No 2 and grit mix as advised by the RHS.  I have high hopes that we will get lemons next year (or just one!).  Best legacy I have been left.

I have a lemon tree in my conservatory.  I was advised to water with rainwater rather than tapwater if possible (as well as feeding).

Apparently, once it gets warmer, they appreciate being put out in the summer too!

Thanks, forgot to mention I've been giving it citrus feed as well. Well I guess its warm enough to put outside now so I'll re-pot, keep feeding and see what happens.

I have a small tree that I though I had killed due to neglect I basically cut it back and now water sparingly but do mist it every day and its started to grow again.

Considering the stress it's been through I would repot over winter while the plants dormant. Just continue watering and feeding in existing pot it won't get huge this year.

Lemon trees are fairly tough, and can re-grow leaves quite quickly. If you have it outside in a partly shaded spot ie not full sun all day, feed it fortnightly and don't overwater it, all should be well  :D
