We've got our first beetroot crop thats ready to be picked.Has anyone got any tasty beetroot recipes as we've only ever had it with salad

Plain boiled, served hot with a white sauce.  Great with sausage and tatties.

I'm sure I saw somewhere on here a recipe for chocolate and beetroot cake, if you can't find it let me know and I'll dig mine out. Before you think YUK I can tell you it's absolutely yummy, very moist and not overpowering, pass it round and ask the family to guess the secret ingredient (beetroot), very few will but many will be surprised

Roasted in tin foil for about 1 1/4 hours - scrub first but DON'T peel or all the colour bleeds out, they're delicious with other roasted veg, in which case I don't wrap them in foil first.  Someone told me you can stuff them but mine aren't big enough.

I just saw the recipe for choc & beet cake and your right i thought "Yuk" but since you say you've tried it calou i might be brave and have a go but i'll make sure the kids dont see me make it or they'll have a fit

grate it raw on cheese-on-toast

slice thin and dep fry in oil dont let ehm burn cos they go quick n taste corrrrrrr

I once was making an ommelate (hate that word) and was thinking of what to throw into the ommellate(hate that word) and there was some cooked beetroot in a bowl so i fried it 1st and poured the egg on top.I ended up with a pink ommelate (hate that word)    
by the way it was lovely but ive never done it again  :?

I grate cooked beetroot....add chopped spring onions, some dill, lemon juice, salt and pepper together with a huge dollop( I love that word!) of mayo and there you have a gorgeous cerise pink yummy side salad
