Infected Manure
« on: March 09, 2009, 20:56 »
After reading several articles on manure infected with a herbecide, is it safe to use the bagged manure that can be purchased from garden centres. I want to use a soil improver and have been thinking of digging in bags of compost. I also have tubs of chicken manure pellets,  which do you think is the best way to go.

That's what i've done to be on the safeside. Unless you have room to stack manure for about 3 years (as i understand it) it's just not worth buying IMO

long article on Gardener's Question Time yesterday. Apparently there are only small amounts of manure affected and there is a way of testing it - mixing it with potting compost and sowing beans in. Do a control also and pot some beans in just the potting compost then watch to see if the beans with manure come up with two heads or whatever
