early ordering or just in time
« on: January 27, 2021, 09:57 »
having spoken  to some fellow gardeners it seems the norm this year is to buy or order there gardening needs early like compost's fertilizers seed potatoes onion sets and more many like me they have probably  already received there seed orders there seems to be a conception that these things will be in short supply come spring as some gardeners where disappointed last year because they couldn't get the seed they wanted and from what's being said in the media lock down is making gardening more popular to many more people

has anyone found buying seeds or other gardening products a problem where you are and are you finding seed orders from your supplier taking longer to arrive with the lock down

Our allotment society has been struggling to get their order from Kings, but the other suppliers seem to be ok.

Still waiting for Kings to send our my Seed potatoes ordered late November. I know they plenty of time but it's a concern that it may not come and the shops such as Wilkos and Garden centres will have sold out.

Kings Seeds are having a disaster of a time getting out orders to allotment associations. They have a warning in small print on their home page that they will close their website for orders every day when they get to the point of having as many as they can handle.

I had to wait a bit for my seed order but my first early seed potatoes arrived on time so no, haven't noticed any issue with ordering gardening stuff yet. The only minor issue I have noticed is I can't order anything from Real Seeds as they are overwhelmed with existing orders.

Our gardening club order from kings was delivered back in early November & this year I ordered my seeds from it knowing I wasn’t going out & about so much, the few varieties I couldn’t get I ordered from premier seeds I think it was & they came pretty quickly. The garden clubs seed potatoes from the wholesale suppliers they use for composts etc are having delays on the potatoes & anticipate they won’t be delivered until the end of Feb, that order went in the end of October! I hope it all comes as we’ll be in for an ear bashing in the store if it doesn’t when we reopen ( due to be 7th feb on a click & collect basis)

I'm waiting for some potatoes from JBA (in Scotland), but they never post any while they have freezing weather, in case they freeze in the delivery vans.

Seeds not a problem from Premier seeds direct, ordered on a  Sunday arrived Tuesday.
Seeds spuds I get locally from a GC and again once they posted they were in nipped down and plenty of varity both loose and netted.

Now fertalizer... I use Maxicrop and there was 1 bottle left on a rather empty shelf, I suspect that this where we may struggle around here, hearing a good few places are thin with products

Compost dont seem to be a problem with plenty of stock around, not sure how that will pan out later, time will tell.

Just ordered my seed potatoes from Potato House after reading John's newsletter.
Had wondered if I was a bit late but e mail hasn't advised of any problems.
Ordered Charlotte's,  Red Duke of York and Sarpo Axona.
Never grown second two so excited to try something different.
Free delivery too which is a bonus.

This came to me this morning from Kings. Wayhay

This is just a quick message to let you know that your potatoes are leaving our warehouse via APC today. You should receive these in a couple of days' time.
