NO!!!
Don't put them outside as it is almost certain, even in Portsmouth, that more frosts will come.
You could repot them into deeper pots, and give each one a stick to wind around to avoid an almighty tangle.
Sweetcorn is just as tender, so keep it under cover until at least mid May, or it will go into shock and stop growing
-
unless you have cloches you can plant them under, IMO it'll still be too cold the first week in May :(
Unless you can protect them, the first whiff of a frost and they'll be dead n gone!
I only put my corn to chit yesterday and haven't even thought about sowing the beans yet

That's odd, I've done the same! Sweetcorn just chitting, beans in their packets.
I think you've caught the "bit too eager" disease, I'm sorry to say.

I have dwarf french beans under a cloche, but fleece at the ready
should when frost threatens, and they are in a sheltered spot too.
Sweetcorn just chitted and planted in pots today
Other beans all still in their packets too.
Never mind diggingk, you might get away with coddling them on inside, and if not, as you can see, it is not too late to sow more.

thanks for the replies :D
think i will repot them into a bigger pot
will make room for them in the corner of the greenhouse
and plant them out mid may
sweetcorn will be ok as there only 3" tall
yes was a bit impatient as first year on the plot and after all the hard work need to see something growing
i have 15 diffident tomato plants there all about 1ft tall
and 20 cucumbers 6" tall
all happy in the greenhouse will soon there be no room for me  :D
thanks again :D

Cucumbers grow quickly in good conditions, and sweetcorn do too.
Sweetcorn do not like having their long root disturbed too much, so potting them inot deeper containers would be helpful, if you have enough compost
-
will get some more compost tomorrow and repot the sweetcorn :)
i can get compost from the 99p shop or should i get grow bags you get more soil in them also 99p
thanks for your help :D

What are your day and night time minimum temperatures up there?
-
at what sort of temperatures is it good to start planting out then? 7 8? (minimums)
-
i put mine out today only cos i know we never get frost so i would hold off until you know 100% you want get any.
-
What's 600 miles between friends. (Difference between Alderney & Helensburg).
-
today was been really hot, the ground whilst planting was very hot too! fingers crossed everything will stay ok over here unless we get a freak snow storm

Beans are terribly sensitive to cold Dopey so it is usually not safe until well into May to put them out. You want overnight temperatures getting near 10 really.
I'll admit to sowing just a few dwarf french ones yesterday, but I'm going to have them in containers in the greenhouse for an early crop. I've got a load of cheap builders buckets with drainage holes drilled into them that I use and if the beans are still going when I need the space, I just move the bucket outside :)

Down here its always traditional to get your runner beans in on Wickham Fair Day, which is traditionally the 20th May weekend.
