I have to gorgeous chicks which are 13 weeks old, it really doesn't matter if they are girls or boys as Ive fallen in love with them both and the neighbours seem ok about it at the moment.  I really would like to know what sex they are.
The White light sussex is very placid and the light beige orpington is alittle skitish but they are both beautiful....  Not heard any cocka doodles or squeak a doodles????
I have 1 Lovely Husband, 2 lovely children, Poppy the Jack Russell, Alvin the Hamster, Jemima & Florence, Ben & Jerry the Budgies and our gorgeous Chick Sylvia and Jess aka Terry :D

hi if you look at the feathers on the neck it is usually a good way to tell,  if they are rounded it's a hen if pointed then its a cock.

Hi,

Your Orpington will be very difficult to sex this early on. I have a 27 Week Orpington that started cock-a-doodling two weeks ago. Another one the same age as him, and has looked identical to him since they were hatched, is not crowing, but I am not assuming anything even at this late stage.

Its just a game of wait and see  ::)

I also have orpingtons, they are 17 weeks old and I have no idea what sexes they are either. We are also playing the wait and see game.

Not sure but the Sussex looks a bit cockerelish but I'm sure someone will be along who has more expertise in these matters to help you out.  They are very pretty :D

Hi I'd say for 95% sure the Sussex is a pullet.  Sussex cockerels develop their combs and wattles very early, and can be sexable by 7-8 weeks usually.

Orpingtons are a little more tricky (and much easier if you have another one to compare against!) so I'm going to hedge my bets on that one, sorry!
