Sea weed
« on: February 04, 2014, 10:59 »
Hi guys,
I'm a fisherman, I've been getting a lot of seaweed lately. I've been saving in all and been putting it on my allotment plot.  The question I need answering is, do I need to do anything to it before putting on my beds? another fellow plot holder said to me I hope you have washed all the salt off, i laughed thinking he was joking but he seem to be deadly serious about it.  Can anyone put some light on the situation for me.

I have put it on my beds anyway but was just wondering about his theory.

Thanks
Dear God, Please can you stop the wind and rain and bring on the nice weather. Amen

Lucky you!  ;)

The RHS says it can be dug straight in and not to worry about the salt, and who are we to disagree?

Thanks for the replys,
hey Darren thanks for clearing that up for me, i've got some soaking in a few water butts. it would be nice to be able too get out to sea some time in the near future, * weather.

chickpeacurry i've laid on my beds to dry out a little before I rotavate it when the weather sorts itself out.  I have put it as a mulch around my fruit bushes (make sure it doesn't touch any shots).

I expect asparagus would like it as wild asparagus is a seaside plant.

Think you're fine there!
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
