anyone alse growing anything in the white polestirine fish boxes?
previous yrs ive grown courgettes, this yr im trying strawberries, cut n grow lettice, herbs and going to try my peas in them.
for the peas i was goingto  build a frame for them with bamboo canes and put netting round the frame (~in a rectangle shape, and then cross bars at the top?make sense?)should it work?
ive never had success with peas, mainly i think due to forgetting to water them enough.

Oh yes! We've used them plenty, mainly for cut and come again salad leaves, land cress and herbs but they're good for mini carrots too.   We don't grow peas here, so I don't know enough about growing peas to know if they will be deep enough, but someone will know the answer to that.

i got some from morrisons few yrs ago but tried tesco this time they wouldnt gve them out, they were a bit funny about it, so just off to get some more from morrissons just now.
where do you source yours from?

The beach! They're the proper ones off the boats. We also got a load at one time from OH's place of work which used to be a fish factory.

i use ones off the beach too.    there great for tomatoes too i have them all lined up at home.

What a great idea. I hadnt thought of that and i have a shed full of them from too many visits to planet ocean in conon  :blink:

I got my dad some boxes years ago, way before I even thought about getting an allotment.

What he does is, every year he goes to the farm where my brother works, fills them with rotted manure.

Takes them home and does the 'ring culture' way of growing his tomatoes, cuc's and peppers in them.

I use mine for salad items and have put garlic in this year as I have not been successful growing garlic in the ground.

I have some of the big heavy duty plazzy ones off the trawlers. Got onions in them at the moment.
