I strimmed a couple of times earlier in the year when it was dry, but it's practically impossible to keep on top of the grass on my paths / edges.

The glyphosate came out one day last weekend ... (it does every year at some point or another!)

I do also have decent weed suppressant fabric over some parts, which sort of does the trick, though the grass does grow out from its edges  :x
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Same answer as the others: Glyphosate, unless you have veg or plants in the allotment.

gimli, I'm not quite sure exactly what your problem is.
I dug all the turf from a 20' x 10' patch of lawn.
It was stacked and covered with thick black polythene for 12 months.
It appeared to have rotted down well, so I spread it onto a patch of my garden.
However, it would appear that the grass has a great will to live and has been springing up everywhere.
My solution has been to engage in battle and to hoe it at first sight.

I'll win in the end with sheer willpower.
The successes and failures of each year keep me motivated for the following year.

lol it is indeed a battle
the thing is me and my lads worked like trojans to clear a very very large part of land and we have got rid of most of the weed
its just the grass that keeps comming back to haunt us lol

I wonder if it's couch grass and you have some of the roots left - if so spray is the quickest answer. Tis a beggar to remove is that stuff as it grows on roots like strings - leave one bit and it's off again on it's merry way.  :(
