Really disappointed. Bumper crop of shallots, and I was looking forward to a major pickling session. Now half have gone mouldy where the stem joins the bulb, and have had to be thrown away. I dried them as best I could and left about 3" of stallk attached, and tried to keep them in a cool dry place, but now this.   :cry:

It's only been about a month since they were harvested - surely they should have kept longer than this. Where did I go wrong? Just haven't had time.

I normally string mine up in a long row on my fence, south facing to ripen, they stay there for a few weeks, then I tie them up and store in the outhouse, I have just finished the last from last year.

I wonder if it's neckrot, Botrytis, which only shows after several weeks in storage. If it is, that's seed born, most commonly, nothing you have or could have done. Try a different supplier.
