Houdini hens can be dangerous!
« on: November 10, 2010, 19:22 »
A word of warning to all you chicken lovers!

One of my hens escaped the run today, (jumped the fence and evaded my collie pup).  I spotted her at the far side of the fence and thought maybe she needed some help to get back into the safe zone, so I pulled on my wellies and went out into the rain.

The fence is behind a small wall, about 3ft high, which I proceeded to climb with a view to throwing my leg over said fence and saving stranded hen

What really happened though, was that I slipped on the brickwork and and landed unceremoniously in a heap on the ground , I landed awkwardly against the wall, broke my wrist and 2 fingers and wrenched my shoulder pretty badly.

And the hen - already back with her mates by the time I had gathered myself from the ground
Dellie :)

How kind of you to entertain your hens like that!  I am just beginning (I don't even have my first chickens yet).  Will I need to learn some acrobatic moves to keep the flock entertained?  Do you think cartwheels on the lawn will do, or do they require more dramatic moves from their humans?

Oh dear!! Hope you heal quickly.  It will be hard trying to clean out the coop with only 1 working arm.  :nowink:
