New Staffie wore me out
« on: November 11, 2007, 21:53 »
My daughter and OH came today with their new Staffie (Sam had to be put down due to age and illness as you know)  They couldn't bear it without a dog and went straight to RSPCA and found Zeb.  He is 10 months old and very well behaved for a rescue puppy.

He was brilliant with the kittens and only chased them once before getting a clawed nose so gave that up as a bad job :?  Then he followed me outside and Gary (young Rhodie cockerel)  was just by the door, he ran off followed by the dog and us, after much shouting and exercise we caught him and he was told off.  He thought it was great fun to chase them but don't think the girls and boys were too pleased.  Still no harm came to them but he needs work  Glad its my daughter and her partner that have the job but I think he will soon learn he is pretty good with other stuff already.  Order of the day is a lead until he can be trusted off it not to chase everyone :(

One very tired chicken owner

Glad to hear they rescued slowef.  :D I know they have had one before but so have I and all I can say is that you are very lucky if you get a Staffie that lives on his own and likes other dogs. Molly the staff I had didn't. She was an Angel with kids and my cats cos she grew up with them but she was a devil with other dogs. So, I hope you dont mind me saying but please make sure he is socialised with other dogs. Its a pain in the a**e when they hate em   :)
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most!!

No they are very lucky he gets on with all the other dogs he has been introduced to.  The shelter put every new dog in with him for a couple of days to get him socialised but he never has shown any aggression towards another dog while he was with them.  He didn't show aggression to my animals just a desire to play but a staff and a kitten playing could be a recipe for disaster as they are so strong, lucky cats can climb and scratch :( and the chickens are fast runners

he has met my sons Lab/collie cross and daughters Lab and no probs there also they have been to lots of friends with dogs and he just wants to play.  Good result for them as an unfriendly dog is a pain.  Curly is also a very experienced Staff owner as he has had them for years and knows the signs to look for, all of his dogs are very well trained and obedient.  All he needs to find out now is how to stop the whining :?  a real Staffie trait but they all seem to do it

Hi all,

I really enjoy reading your chatter every evening, thank you.

I have a Staffie, she was very, very rude to our new Rhode Island Reds
back in June, but she has learnt that when she rushes up to their 'Aviary' they peck VERY hard.  She now backs off quickly and hides behind me!

Wonderful dogs, so loving and loyal, our  daughter who has very special needs squeezes her so tight that the little dogs eyes bulge!
